* Why does Verbis conduct only individual courses ?
Polish language belongs to Slavonic group of languages, which alphabet and grammar rules are very much different from alphabets and grammar rules of our course participants. For every person that learns Polish as a foreign language, depending on descent, the novelty of it and consequently the difficulty will be something different. During courses in groups of learners from different countries, interesting as they may be, it is impossible for a teacher to focus on needs of individual participants, that result from their descent. Individual courses enable the teacher not only to concentrate on differences between languages, but also to adapt course program to individual needs and predispositions of course participants.

* Who can learn at Verbis?
We believe that it is never too late and never to early to start learning languages. Therefore, we invite for our courses people of all ages and all nationalities. At our courses we mainly teach Europeans – very often Germans, Dutch, Spaniards and French. Nevertheless, demand for learning Polish goes further than European boarders and we have a pleasure also to teach e.g. American citizens. The largest group of our students consists of people that decided to live and work in Poland but they are not the only ones. The other group of course participants include people that are in Poland temporary on studies or business contracts. We teach very often people that are emotionally devoted to Poland – they have Polish partner or Polish roots.
In case of course on elementary level, only the basic knowledge of English is required.
* Who teaches in Verbis?
If you choose to learn in Verbis you can be sure that lessons will be conducted by a Polish teacher who:
- is educated in this field and is methodically prepared for teaching (Master’s degree at Faculty of Polish Language and Post Graduate Studies of Teaching Polish Language as Second Langue);
- has experience in teaching Polish language as a second language;
- is a friendly person who likes his/her job and is devoted to it.
* What is the teaching method of Verbis?
During our courses we use communicative approach, that means that we focus on good communication in order to perform teaching the best way we can. During our courses we attempt to develop four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, but speaking abilities are mostly practised. Moreover, our teaching program is based on revision system that is individually prepared for every course participant.
First lessons on elementary level (from basis) are conducted in English, which is systematically eliminated during course progress and is replaced by Polish language.
During lessons lexical and grammar material is gradually introduced (starting from vocabulary and most common phrases) and always in the way that grammar rules do not seem abstract and are connected with certain expressions, and its usage can be possibly identified by a participant in every day life situations.
During the first year, course participant learn the basic communicational skills both spiking and writing and are introduced to basic system of Polish grammar rules. After a year of systematic learning in standard mode (2x90minutes/week) the participant can freely communicate in all every day life basic situations, such as: phone calls, shopping, asking abut time and a way, visits to public places (hotels, airports, railway stations, restaurants, shops, offices, banks, clinics, post office etc.). On higher levels, the scope of vocabulary and grammar system is gradually broadened and lessons are devoted mostly to develop speaking skills.
* How does the first lesson look like? What if I know Polish language in some scope?
In case of people who know Polish language in some way, the free of charge introductory lesson is conducted in order to determine level of language knowledge of the participant. If it is necessary, the free of charge placement test is done. During such introductory lesson, the teacher describes planned course program and learns demand of the participant. The lesson may last, depending on need, from 45 to 90 minutes.
* At what day of a week and time of a day can I have my lessons?
Verbis conducts courses from Monday to Friday, from morning till evening. Time flexibility enables us to conduct weekend courses upon request. We conduct both standard (once or twice a week) and intense (e.g. 5 times a week) courses, general and specialised ones (e.g. business language course, grammar revision course), short-term (that last e.g. only a month) and long-term (a few years). Learning mode depend on individual needs and abilities of a Client.
